OPEN SUBMISSIONS JULY 22ND - AUGUST 12TH, 2024.
Dear Creative,
Thank you for your interest in submitting to Elder Glade Publishing! Welcome to the adventure.
Please take a moment to look around and orient yourself to our platform and intentions. Our submission categories and mandates for enrollment are below.
Please review: EGP Mission Statement & Active Mandates
Please review: EGP Manifesto
The EGP Submission Portal:
For unrepresented creators
The Elder Glade Publishing free submission portal will be open for three weeks: July 22nd - August 12th, 2024. This window is open to the public. We will see unrepresented works and creatives at this time, through our webforms process.
For represented creators
The EGP agented or represented window will be in November 2024. If you have an agent or a representative, please let them know the window to apply will be in late autumn through the Executive Portal. They will need to contact us directly for that access. This goes against standard industry protocol, but there’s a good reason--please see below.
Why such a limited open window? Honesty and transparency—and fairness.
We have a limited staff and startup funding pool. This means we can only acquire a small number of projects and creators in the first rounds. To conserve energy for our small staff, we will limit the unsolicited free submission portal to twice a year, three weeks each.
We encourage that if you don’t make it the first time, try again the next round. Our project needs will be shifting, and we’ll have more bandwidth and new staff for more eyeballs on projects as we grow. Keep trying!
The agency portal for submissions is counter to industry standards for a similar reason. Being “on call” to accept an entry outside a dedicated time, while staff is stretched and timelines for publication loom can be a drain on resources and focus. Frankly, it can make prioritization challenging. The executive portal is also a part of our affiliate partnership program and requires a higher level of rigor and timeline management. While we are small, we’re consolidating processes to help keep the odds fair for everyone—whether they have a representative or not.
Keeping a timeline and system for when we are accepting submissions also helps the team really take their time with those submissions without burning out on never-ending volume. Thank you for understanding.
What to expect:
We will open our submissions process (unless catastrophic failure) on July 22nd, 2024, at midnight PST (Pacific Standard Time in the United States). That means the web forms on the submission portal will go live to receive your information. Those forms will deactivate at midnight PST on the 12th of August 2024. We will review anything that comes in prior to that cutoff.
*Note: In the event of technology failures on our end of the process, we will make efforts to keep the window open longer and communicate the issues. This is an untested process; your patience is much appreciated!
The forms will ask you, the creator, for core information about the project you would like to submit based on your chosen categories (yes, you may submit more than one project!). We are not requesting or reviewing full manuscripts on the first rounds—but checking to see if themes, content scope and scale, creator communication, and concepts are a fit for that round of EGP builds and acquisitions.
If not, don’t sweat it. We might love your idea but may have run out of acquisition budget for the scope or scale of your project—but we’ll happily look at it again next round.
The rejection protocol:
Due to the volume we expect to receive, our current rejection policy is a “form rejection” to the email used to register. (Form rejection means everyone gets the same decline and offer to try again at the next window.) Please be consistent about checking your spam folders just in case.
Second round invitation:
If we are interested in the answers provided in the form submission, we’ll reach out the same registered email used to apply and ask for your manuscript and a bio. Please be consistent about checking your spam folders just in case!
If we make a request for the manuscript and bio, you’ll have 72 hours to submit your documentation. Why the short window? This ensures that creators submitting to the portal aren’t pitching an idea they haven’t finished or is not ready to be reviewed. This ensures our small team isn’t losing precious time and bandwidth waiting on promised work, potentially putting lag in other timelines. It also ensures that a potential new collaborator can keep to a schedule and their word.
Remember luck is where opportunity and preparation meet.
A note on manuscript submissions.
If you receive a request for manuscripts or full works, we can accept Word documents, and PDFs. We’ll let you know which format to send in when we make a request.
Your bio:
If there is more than one writer on the team, or creator in the group, please include bios for each. Your bio will need to have links to any public profiles or websites for your work, along with a little about your creative career, and personal goals.
Bio prompt suggestions: just some ideas if you’re stuck.
What do you hope to achieve from the publication process? What do you love most about writing? How do you prioritize your creativity and work life balance? What’s your favorite writing time space and practice?
Have fun!
We here at EGP hope that once you’ve hit the submit button on your form that you’ll go off and enjoy the rest of your day.
Life is short and beautiful! Enjoy.
